If there’s magic on this planet, it’s water. Use this precious resource wisely and enable a sustainable tomorrow.

That’s the foremost message Tata Steel and Wunderman Thompson South Asia has tried to convey to the mass during the coronavirus pandemic.

This film is based on a social experiment that revealed several litres of water was wasted every time a person would wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds.

Driven by fear of COVID-19 lot many videos are trending which are teaching individuals to how to clean their hands. From wetting hands with water and applying the right amount of soap, to rubbing rotationally with clasped fingers to rinsing hands with running water and then drying hands – seeing all these videos, I am sure everyone is a pro now! Also, due to the scarcity of sanitizers and also exorbitant price in the market, people prefer to wash their hands with soap and running water.

To convey this message, Tata Steel and Wunderman Thompson South Asia conducted a social experiment wherein, they asked people to send in videos of their hand wash regimen.

What was discovered was somewhere predicted, surprising and shocking at the same time!

Well, everyone was familiar with the correct way to wash hands but they found that everyone unknowingly kept their taps running while washing their hands. Which meant that for every 20-second hand wash, each of these individuals wasted several litres of water. While they were so concerned about cleaning their hands that unknowingly they missed out the fact that they were wasting water.

On the occasion of Earth Week, the team thought of an opportunity to promote a beautiful and important message – ‘Don’t let one crisis give rise to another‘.

The message of washing handing while saving water needed to be shared immediately.

In today’s tech-savvy world, the best way to broadcast any message is via social message and what better way than a short film on the digital platform.

Be concerned about COVID-19 but also save water for a sustainable future. Don’t keep the water running while you wash your hands. Learn and spread the word!
